The stunning new Festival Echo video 'Continue to Burn' by dancer and choreographer Steff D'Arcy is now live! Make yourself a coffee, turn up the sound and enjoy. Artists Aisling Gallagher and Calum Perrin have created an audio composition, exploring the sonic experiences of disabled people during the pandemic.
Working with disabled and neurodiverse people in Stoke, Aisling and Calum facilitated workshops with participants, collecting experiences and sounds. "What are the good and bad experiences of lockdown for disabled people? And how is the new normal effecting us? With the help of participants, we wove elements and soundscape, interview and music, shaping the material into an audio piece to be shared online." If you are local to Stoke-on-Trent why not save on postage for your Festival Mugs?
Collect on either Saturday morning: 5th or 12th December, 9am - 12noon. Use the code on the website for the morning you want to collect: COLLECT5DEC COLLECT12DEC And you'll have no postage to pay. Address for collection is: Denise O’Sullivan Ceramics Summit Business Park Lingard Street Burslem Stoke-on-Trent ST6 1ED We're super excited to announce our new venture! Now you can own a piece of Festival Art! We've teamed up with Denise O'Sullivan Ceramics to create these beautiful fine china mugs.
The designs are inspired by artworks created by Adam Pryce Illustrator and the local community of Stoke, for 'Proud of Stoke' at our last festival. Denise has adapted the designs to create a series of narratives across the four mugs; each design draws on an iconic Stoke-on-Trent feature, including the pottery industry past and present, the canals and the many green spaces around the city. Beautiful and practical these mugs celebrate both the heritage of Stoke-on-Trent and the creative city today. Now you can enjoy your brew with some uplifting Festival Stoke art! There are four to collect, so pop over to our new Etsy Shop and check them out! What does the phrase 'rebellious female' conjure up in your mind?
Coming early in December 'Continue to Burn' is a dance film exploring female rebellion. Two females struggle against and support one another as they journey through an industrial landscape. Set to a composed soundscape of field recordings, synth and female voice, teamed with garments designed to reflect the industrial and rebellious nature of the work. The film depicts a dance of strength, vulnerability and ever changing power dynamics, commanding the viewer to question their idea of the rebellious female. We are delighted to see the final performance film of Undergrowth by Jack Philp and Hannah Bracher-Smith - it is so moving and so appropriate for the times we are living in. "From our anxieties about change to themes of claustrophobia and growth, now more than ever, there feels like a necessity for artwork to help us reflect, process and communicate." We hope you enjoy this as much as the Festival Stoke Team. Jack and Hannah have been busy working on their Festival Echoes commission 'Undergrowth'. We love the outdoors location, a breath of fresh air. Here's a snippet from their filming and the full work will be available on Youtube in November. The latest Black Life Monologue is now live. Created by Jordan Charles it has a twist in the tail... we suggest you watch it once, then watch it again, once you know the twist! The second film in the Black Life Monologues is now available to view on our Youtube challenge. A beautifully choreographed and performed, powerful and challenging piece by Dominic Charles. Here Dominic explains his thought process behind it: "This piece was even though there have been so many recent injustices, I wanted to shine a light on those that have been forgotten about. Philandro Castille, Mike Brown, Sandra Bland, Elijah Mcclain. So many of my brother and sisters that have been slaughtered but have never fully received their justice." Look out for our super large Art Street posters around Stoke-on-Trent from 22nd September. We have been working to make sure that the Essence head sculptures are still looking great and artist Richard has made a replacement for the one of Christine which went walkies from outside Wetherspoons in the centre of Stoke. Why not book yourself a visit to Stoke during October and enjoy the wonderful Art Street trail of sculptures and banners.
More details about the project and who they represent can be found on the Essences page. |
