ARTWORK INSPIRED CHINA MUGS
We've teamed up with Denise O'Sullivan Ceramics to create these beautiful fine china mugs.
The designs are inspired by artworks created by Adam Pryce Illustrator and the local community of Stoke, for 'Proud of Stoke' at our last festival. Denise has adapted the designs to create a series of narratives across the four mugs; each design draws on an iconic Stoke-on-Trent feature, including the pottery industry past and present, the canals and the many green spaces around the city.
Beautiful and practical these mugs celebrate both the heritage of Stoke-on-Trent and the creative city today. Now you can enjoy your brew with some uplifting Festival Stoke art!
There are four to collect, so pop over to our new Etsy Shop and check them out!

The Original Murals Which Inspired the Designs
Artist and Community Created
Here's a selection of photos of artists Adam Pryce and Nicola Wynstanley hosting the workshops out of which came the designs for three huges tile artworks. They are now installed outside and inside Stoke Market.
The Story Behind the Mugs
As part of Festival Stoke 2017 artist Adam Pryce worked with the local community of Stoke-upon-Trent on a project called ‘Proud of Stoke’. Together they produced designs for three large mural tile boards to be installed outside Stoke Market. The murals are really popular as they include many positive features of Stoke and they brighten up the town.
We loved the designs so much that we began to think how we could reproduce some of the images on items people could take into their homes to enjoy.
In 2018 we asked Adam to adapt some of the images from the tiles into designs that we could use and he produced a bundle of stylish images. Being a talented children’s illustrator he produced some very appealing designs.
Then in 2019 we approached Stoke-on-Trent based ceramic designer and producer Denise O’Sullivan to adapt some of the designs to fit onto her stylish fine china mugs.
Denise chose four patterns and developed these, with additional flourishes of birds and flowers, into wrap-around decals for her mugs.
“My aim was to further develop the existing imagery, creating narratives onto ceramic forms inspired by traditional blue and white Staffordshire wares. The designs are a celebration of the natural and industrial beauties that make up Stoke-on-Trent.”
A local china factory produced mugs to Denise’s design and the final stage was for her to fire them with the finished designs in her own kiln.

Artist Designed - A Map of Stoke Town
For spring 2020 we asked artist Rebecca Davies to illustrate a unique map of the town of Stoke-upon-Trent, featuring the interesting, bright and fun people and characteristics she found around the town.
Rebecca spent time visiting the local shops, market, cafes and pubs - getting to know people and finding out their stories about the place where they live and work.
Her map contains pictures of well-known local characters, and several of the independent shops. Open it out and you have a large map which can help you find your way around the town. There's also some hidden cartoons and comments which will make you chuckle!
The map is printed onto A2 paper and folded to an A5 Mapzine (a map-cum-magazine).
It's a great collectable particularly if you love Stoke!
